Why Fasting Does NOT Damage Your Metabolism

"Won't NOT eating for long stretches damage my metabolism?"
NO.
My Mom asked me this the other day and I thought it was a great question that deserved a straightforward answer to more than just her.
Intermittent Fasting (eating within a smaller window of time during the day), or straight up all day fasting (not eating for 24 hours +) - is something that actually SPEEDS UP weight loss as well as does LOADS of other desirable things.
BENEFITS INCLUDE (but not limited to):
- Sped up Weight Loss
- Increased Energy
- Improved Cognitive Function
- Improved Digestion
- Slowed Aging
- Enhanced Autophagy (body "cleans itself up" - think improved health inside and less loose skin+++ outside)
- Considered a Form of an Anti Cancer Diet

- Improved Hormonal Balance (especially Human Growth Hormone and Testosterone)

Now WHY doesn't this MESS with my Metabolism?
It's because when you DON'T eat Insulin is NOT present.
Insulin is a Fat Storing as well as Fat Burning BLOCKING hormone.
When Insulin IS NOT present your body can access Fat for Fuel therefore NEVER needing to lower your Metabolic Rate or break Muscle down for fuel.
When Insulin is present AND you're at a caloric deficit (ahem, what we need to be in order to lose weight) you run the risk of what you're most afraid of.
This is why eating small meals frequently is NOT the best approach to weight loss.
Each time we eat Insulin is released which BLOCKS the body's ability to access the Fat it wishes to burn.
Intermittent Fasting or straight up Fasting is so effective and NOT Metabolically compromising for the fact of Insulin alone.
Think of it like a switch.
Insulin = Red Light for Fat Burning
No Insulin = Green Light for Fat Burning
